Books have always been at the heart of Gillian Richardson’s world – as a reader, a Teacher-Librarian, and a writer. While teaching in PEI and Saskatchewan, or later, writing in BC, she found nature study and science inspired much of her creative work. She has published over 20 books for young readers that include nonfiction, novels, chapter books, picture books, and recently, ebooks. Over 40 of her short stories and articles on nature topics have been published in children’s magazines. She is a member of CANSCAIP, SWG, and the Canadian Children’s Book Centre, writes children's book reviews for CM Magazine, and is a Reader for CANSCAIP’s Writing for Children Competition.
Her nonfiction book, Kaboom! Explosions of All Kinds, won the American Institute of Physics 2010 Science Writing Award, and was shortlisted for 3 provincial readers’ choice awards. The World of Tens series (Annick Press) includes the multi-award winning title 10 Plants That Shook the World, as well as 10 Ships That Rocked the World, and 10 Routes That Crossed the World. A collection of short stories, An Instinct for Survival: Ten Nature Adventures, is available from this bookshop.
