20.3 x 12.7 cm (8 x 5 in)
It’s the summer of 1911. Victoria’s life has changed dramatically in the past year--her mother has died in childbirth and her father has already remarried. Victoria doesn’t care much for her new stepmother, or her stepbrother, Jacob. Jacob dislikes his new job in Victoria’s father’s hardware store and longs to return to the farming life he had to leave after the death of his father. But when Victoria is struck down with a serious illness, both of their lives take another turn and a friendship develops that offers hope in the face of tragedy.
The story is told in two voices, both Victoria’s and Jacob’s.
